Which Way Now? Immigration Post-Vote

June 28th, 2007 · No Comments-What's your opinion?· 22 views

The Senate has, once again, rejected the fatally flawed immigration bill that the liberal Democrats and President Bush’s last two supporters were trying to push trhough. Heck, they may try once more but time is so very short. Our employees, your Senators and Congresscritters, are about to take a couple of months off.

So, what now? I’m pro immigration, even to a degree pro amnesty. This bill wasn’t the way. What is the way?

Enforcement, to begin with. Put some money and lots of people on this. Let employers know that the I-9 process is serious. Start deporting folks.

Fix the visa process. We do not need dozens of variants. Have just a few, four or five, and an effective vetting process. Make these folks report in, like they’re on parole. Boot out the ones that violate the terms of their visas.

Fix the stupidity. That gal in California whose been here since she was one, but now faces deportation to Cuba because she voted and she wasn’t a citizen. There are lots of cases like this, ICE going after the easy pickings because they look good and they don’t have to do any work. There should be a quick fix for such problems that does not involve deportation to a country the alien has never known.

Build the fence. Build a bigger and better one.

And, finally, make it easy to become a citizen if you’re hardworking and financially responsible. Even if that means some form of amnesty. These are the people we want in this country.
