Uruzgan Battle

COMBINED FORCES COMMAND - AFGHANISTAN

Afghan National Army and Coalition forces battled anti-coalition members for six hours in the Tarin Kowt District of Uruzgan Province yesterday evening. Twenty-four enemy fighters were killed during the fierce fighting.

One Afghan National Police member and four ANA soldiers were killed battling the enemy fighters. Another six ANA and three ANP suffered wounds and were taken to a nearby medical treatment facility where their condition is unknown.

The engagement started when a joint combat patrol of Afghan and Coalition forces returned fire against several enemy fighters who were hiding in a compound shooting at them.

Afghan and Coalition forces beat back the attack with heavy machine gun fire and forced the attackers to retreat. Enemy fighters then attempted to reinforce with additional militants from two nearby compounds.
