United States Swine Flu – H1N1 Update for May 9 2009
The CDC has informed me that, as of yesterday, 44 state labs had been certified to test for swine flu – H1N1. The newest test kits have been distributed to all 50 states and Puerto Rico. 131 foreign nations have requested the kits and about half have been sent.
The various websites are being updated daily with counts, but that may not hold true for the weekend. The various public health agencies are working hard but I suspect that the web guy is not going to get paid overtime to update the table on the site. So… for some of the counts, we will be waiting until Monday.
The United States currently has 2,254 cases of swine flu recorded, in 43 states and the District of Columbia.

Here are the states with the highest numbers of swine flu cases as of May 9, 2009. Data from the CDC.
Illinois has the number shown by the CDC. Arizona, California, Wisconsin and New York have no report for May 9.
Texas has a report for May 9, showing 179 cases. This is 69 more cases than the CDC has recorded.
Michigan shows a slight increase from the case count by the CDC. It now reports 115 cases, an increase of 12 from the CDC count.
The Department of Defense is tracking cases being treated at its facilities. As of May 9, it reports 139 cases, of which 79 are active duty. The remainder are retired, familyu members, recruits or not known. The cluster aboard the USS Dubuque continues to grow in number, with about 30 sailors confirmed or probable for swine flu. In addition, there are cases in the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) course.
