Turning Stone Casino and Resort
An enterprise of the Oneida Indian Nation
Over all, a poor imitation of Atlantic City trying to imitate Vegas.
- Room: A
possibly the best hotel room I have ever stayed in. Comfortable bed. Clean. Nice view of the front fountain. The usual poorly fitted bathroom door, and access panel in the bathroom wall. TV grainy, not at all clear as cable can be. - Food: C
ranging from bland to greasey. Not someplace I would eat by choice. Baked potato was flavorless (wrong choice of variety, I suspect). Wife’s broiled scallops came in nearly an inch of water with a little butter floating on top. Screwed up our breakfast order. twice. - Personnel: B
Bell hop and room service guy very nice. Valet parking ok. Restaurant waitress bogarted the service, knew what to say but no expression in her attitude. - Shopping: C
The shops are right up front. Cigarette smell overwhelming. Lacking in souveniers labelled with the Casino brand. As much or more NASCAR stuff, oddly. That shop was basicly a smoke shop anyway. Ciggy’s running $3.15-$3.30 a pack, which is about $2 less than machines off the reservation. - Casino: C
Only video slots. Needs the sound of coins dropping. Winning doesn’t seem to set off lights or alarms like other casinos, or else no one was winning. Smoke was unbearable. - Overall: C
Cigarette smoke filled the lobby and the casino area. You couldn’t escape it, in restaurants or anywhere. Our clothes reeked of it. One tiny non-smoking gambling room, but it was a alcove across the hall from the wide open casino, so it just didn’t matter. One elevator, in the center. We walked 100 plus yards to our room. Constant drone of crowd noise and video slots on ground floor was mind numbing. Noise level was way too high. Couldn’t hold a conversation at the dinner table. Nice entrance, with fountain in courtyard garden. Good for wedding photos.
Casino Niagara is better and has non-smoking floor and restaurants. The Souix have a nice casino in South Dakota, just south of Fargo, with adequate air handling. The only time you notice smokers is if they sit next to you.
