Thoughts on the 2008 Presidential Candidates

A few months have passed since my last post about the candidates. Attacks have flown back and forth. So, here are a few more thoughts.

Shouldn’t every single candidate now and in the future resolve to never, EVER show up for a YouTube debate?

Rudy was the mayor of a huge city. The priorities of a mayor, whether of East Rochester with 6500 people or New York City, will be different than that of a President. Local policies should not be read as national policies and perceived contradictions really are not. A mayor will have far more problems every single day with illegal immigrants than any President. It’s the President’s job to prevent illegal immigration. It’s a mayor’s job to minimize the problems they cause in his city.

Romney governed a liberal state. To assume that his election and any successes there were due to some hidden conservative beliefs is foolish. He has a record, as does Huckabee, and there is no reason to believe that they would govern the United States any differently than they did their respective states.

Obama has no experience. Obama is a product of the Daley machine. Obama is Hubert Humphrey. Well, skinnier, black and with a hotter wife.

Hillary would use a hammer to kill an ant. She hires folks who would use a steam roller to kill an ant. Of all the candidates, she would be the first to use nukes in a crisis. On Surinam or Togo.

Fred Thompson has a hot wife. Fred Thompson has been a TV star. Fred Thompson served in the US Senate. Fred Thompson has a resume, not a candidacy.

John McCain is a hero and a grumpy old man. Neither of which entitle him to be President. Besides, he doesn’t believe in free, unfettered, free speech.

I do not like any of the candidates. If, and it is a huge if, I have to choose right now it would be Rudy. Remember, on September 10, Rudy was the nastiest SOB in New York. That is not a qualification for President despite his actions on September 11.
