The Times and the Law

I wrote the New York Times a serious e-mail after they broke the story about the analysis of the financial records to track terrorists. A great many of my fellow travelers on the right, whom I respect and admitre, would like to see the Times and its reporters prosecuted for these sorts of stories.

The fight that would ensue over the First Amendment would obscure the very real necessity to discourage such leaks.

I would suggest that we locate and prosecute the leakers. The folks who gave this story to the Times, and the story about the NSA program, have clearly broken the law. They deserve to be tried, and imprisoned, and, oh, yeah, lose their job.

The media cannot wreck important programs that are not leaked. Find and prosecute the leakers.
