Staff Sgt. Matthew Matlock – Silver Star
Hundreds of maroon-bereted Soldiers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team gathered Nov. 30 to honor Staff Sgt. Matthew Matlock, a noncommissioned officer from Company C, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment for actions he took under fire to save Soldiers in Afghanistan. 55 Taliban Killed
nternational Security Assistance Forces in the Zerok district of Paktika province inflicted heavy casualties on anti-Afghan forces in response to an enemy ambush in that area, June 20. Around 55 anti-Afghan forces were killed, 25 wounded and three detained due to the combined response of ISAF ground and air forces. The ISAF patrol received rocket propelled grenade and small-arms fire from anti-Afghan forces. ISAF responded with a combination of small-arms fire and air support to gain fire superiority against the anti-Afghan forces. The incident occurred along the main road between Zerok and Orgun districts.
