WordPress Technical Issues

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I spent most of last night messing with the backend of this site.

The current version of WordPress uses an autosave feature. It appears that if you try to save or publish the post at the time the autosave kicks in, you might lose access to editing that post.

The solution I found involved editing the SQL record for the post, a scary prospect, but one that worked.

I do not find a way to turn off autosave.

As part of trying to fix this problem, I disabled and deleted a number of plugins that I was using. One of them listed the number of viewers for each post. That was a mistake but one that I probably will not fix.

For some reason, the thumbnails that should accompany each excerpt on the front page do not always appear for me. Don’t know if it is a browser cache problem or a plugin problem.

WordPress Plugin Sadness

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I’ve spent much of this evening downloading and trying to install a variety of interesting plugins for this site. Overwhelmingly, the process has been a failure.

The documentation is spotty for most. Read-me files consist on how to install the plugin.

Many look to place files in non-existant directories. Others just don’t seem to work.

I have a polling plugin I’m going to try later in the week. This message is a test of the Twitter plugin.

You Say You Want a Revolution

I just dropped some money on a “pro” theme, I know that there are some glitches, so please contact me if things are crazy bad.

I have to integrate advertising, and donation abilities. And, I think I have a clew about how I was supposed to implement the design.

Lots of plug-in updates showing. I guess I should figure out why the automatic upgrade thingy does not work.

Lots to do but it seems stable for the nonce.
