Sharp Fighting Kills 12 Terrorists, Civilians

Afghan national security forces and coalition forces killed 12 militants in Shaheed Hasas district, Oruzgan province, Oct. 8, 2008. The forces were conducting a combat security patrol when they were attacked by militants with small-arms, mortar and rocket-propelled grenade fire. ANSF and coalition forces responded to the attack with small-arms, RPG and supporting fires, killing 12 militants. Local Afghan villagers told ANSF and coalition forces that militant fire killed 10 Afghan civilians in a nearby village. Militant fire also injured three women and six children who sought out coalition forces for medical care. All of the injured were medically evacuated to a coalition hospital where they are being treated for their injuries. No ANSF or coalition forces casualties have been reported. Terrorists Kill Themselves, Civilians

A terrorist detonated a suicide vest Sunday in Mosul while Coalition forces were conducting an operation to capture a wanted man. As Coalition forces entered the building housing the terrorist, they began receiving small arms fire. Coalition forces returned fire once engaged. A terrorist detonated a suicide vest shortly thereafter in the house. During the operation, five terrorists, along with three women and three children were killed. Two additional children, one of which was injured, were found near the building and moved to safety. Al-Qaeda Hideout Destroyed

Coalition forces killed four and detained nine suspected terrorists while further degrading al-Qaeda in Iraq operations in central and northern Iraq Wednesday and Thursday [June 11-12 2008]. Detainees in custody provided information that led Coalition forces to Diyala province, where they targeted leaders of an al-Qaeda in Iraq suicide-bombing network Thursday. Coalition forces positively identified the targeted individual, known for making suicide vests, and followed him into a remote area north of Baqubah, about 50 kilometers north of Baghdad. The area was believed to be a hideout location used to house weapons. The house was rigged with booby-traps throughout. Coalition forces called for supporting aircraft to engage the area, which triggered several secondary explosions, indicating bomb materials and weapons on the ground. 7 Criminals, 10 Terrorists Killed

An aerial weapons team and an M1A2 Abrams Tank crew killed seven criminals in the Sadr City district of Baghdad April 28. Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers came under attack by criminals using small-arms fire. At approximately 3:10 p.m., an MND-B aerial weapons team and an MND-B M1A2 Abrams tank engaged the enemy forces, with the AWT team firing a hellfire missile and killing four of the criminals, and the tank crew firing a main round and killing three criminals. Attackers Driven Back Towards Iran

The Iraqi Department of Border Enforcement discovered a cache of anti-tank mines after taking small arms fire from an unknown number of terrorists, April 14. The Department of Border Enforcement soldiers returned fire in self-defense, driving the terrorists toward the Iranian border. More than 160 anti-tank mines were found after the terrorists broke contact. The Iraqi Department of Border Enforcement in northern Iraq includes more than 8,700 agents and covers nine points of entry. The Department of Border Enforcement is responsible for patrolling the border and conducting other assigned law enforcement duties. Sadr Revolt 3-28-2008 early am

MND-B Soldiers target criminals; 23 killed Multi-National Division – Baghdad soldiers engaged and killed 23 criminals in separate engagements in Baghdad March 28. Soldiers from 2nd BCT, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), killed one criminal in northeastern Baghdad after seeing the individual with a rocket propelled grenade launcher in an alleyway during a patrol. At approximately 4 p.m., a 3rd BCT, 4th Infantry Division vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in northeastern Baghdad. A number of criminals then fired on the soldiers while they attempted to recover the vehicle. Soldiers spotted and engaged two of the attackers, killing them both. Iran Backing Sadr Revolt in Iraq

AP reported on March 26 “Mahdi Army commanders have told the AP that the militia has recently taken delivery of new weapons supplied by backers in Iran. The arsenal, they said, included roadside bombs, anti-aircraft guns and Soviet-designed Grad rockets. They also said an infusion of cash, also from Iran, helped the militia set up new command centers equipped with Internet-linked computers, fax machines and satellite mobile phones. They have also received global positioning system devices, they said. The United States has long accused Iran of providing Shiite militias in Iraq with arms and training. Iran denies it.” News from Iraq continues to suggest that the Iraqi Army and National Police are holding their own in their fight against the Sadr Revolt. Forces engage suspected IED emplacers in Basra

Coalition forces killed five suspected improvised explosive device emplacers and wounded several others after 10 individuals were spotted conducting suspicious activity in the Al Hyyaniyah District, Basra at approximately 11: 45 p.m. March 24. ISF, Coalition forces reinforce 3 checkpoints during attack

Iraqi Security Forces and Coalition forces reinforced a political party headquarters building and three ISF checkpoints after an attack by terrorist forces March 25. An Iraqi Army checkpoint was engaged by terrorist forces at approximately 11 a.m. by small-arms fire near the Daawa Party Building in Sadr City. The IA soldiers repelled the enemy forces and secured their checkpoint and the building. Three checkpoints also came under enemy fire. The ISF and CF quickly reinforced the positions.
