Afghan National Security Forces Kill Six Militants

Afghan national security forces, assisted by coalition forces, killed six insurgents and destroyed a weapons cache in Shaheed Hasas District, Oruzgan province today [4-8-2009]. The combined forces were conducting a combat reconnaissance patrol in order to deny insurgent freedom of movement, when they positively identified six armed men emplacing improvised explosive devices and constructing an ambush site. ANSF and coalition forces engaged the militants with mortar fire, killing all six. A search of the area uncovered several improvised explosive device making materials, small arms, two containers of homemade explosives, ammunition, detonators and 10 mortar rounds. Sharp Fighting Kills 12 Terrorists, Civilians

Afghan national security forces and coalition forces killed 12 militants in Shaheed Hasas district, Oruzgan province, Oct. 8, 2008. The forces were conducting a combat security patrol when they were attacked by militants with small-arms, mortar and rocket-propelled grenade fire. ANSF and coalition forces responded to the attack with small-arms, RPG and supporting fires, killing 12 militants. Local Afghan villagers told ANSF and coalition forces that militant fire killed 10 Afghan civilians in a nearby village. Militant fire also injured three women and six children who sought out coalition forces for medical care. All of the injured were medically evacuated to a coalition hospital where they are being treated for their injuries. No ANSF or coalition forces casualties have been reported. Dozens of Militants Killed During Ops in Afghanistan

Boats? The Taliban has boats in a landlocked country??? July 13, 2008 – At least 40 insurgents during an ongoing operation in Afghanistan’s Helmand province yesterday, military officials said. The fight began when insurgent forces attacked an Afghan and coalition security patrol yesterday in Sangin district. From multiple concealed and fortified positions, the insurgents used small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. The ensuing fight led the combined forces to return fire and call for precision air strikes. The friendly forces destroyed four insurgent fortified fighting positions, two bunkers, two trench lines, one improvised-explosive-device site, and more than 30 enemy boats, officials said. Elsewhere, Afghan and coalition forces killed several insurgents while conducting a security patrol in the Shaheed Hasas district in Oruzgan province.
