Corporal Bill (Willy) Apiata was awarded the Victoria Cross for his heroism as part of the New Zealand SAS contingent in Afghanistan. Most fellows who are awarded their nation’s highest military honor would say they’ve done their best and let the other lads handle the fight. Not Apiata. He’s back in the ‘stan with his lads.
