Similarities between nonprofit and for-profit businesses
Profit. Businesses are broken down into categories by the word “profit”. Some are “for profit”. Others are “not for profit”. They all share the word profit.
Making a profit, taking in more money than you spend, is everyone’s goal. From the average person in the street to the largest corporation, the goal is to make a profit. Even “non profits” or “not for profits” must make a profit to continue to survive as organizations.
Are there any fresh ideas for fund raising? There are, and there are some oldies but goodies that can be brought back to life.
The Al Sigl Community of Agencies in Rochester, New York, has a great fund raising idea. It is called the “Just One” campaign and has been raising money for years. Their direct mail campaign asks each recipient to give “Just One”, just one dollar.
How to write a nonprofit mission statement
The mission statement can be the most important document created by a nonprofit. Written through the correct process, it can serve to inspire and energize and publicize.
The mission statement is the clearest and shortest definition of the purpose of the nonprofit. It should represent, on paper, the ideal that the organization and its supporters strive for every day.
