The Centers for Disease Control have reduced their reporting of pandemic swine flu / novel H1N1 cases to once a week, on Friday. We will attempt to keep our readers updated during the week by posting data from various state sites.

States marked in this color are those which have stopped posting their pandemic flu case numbers on line, or the numbers are not easily found at their site.

The outbreak is beginning to register in the smaller states that lagged a few weeks ago. Reporting is still the largest frustration. Wisconsin has the largest outbreak in the nation and is not publicly reporting case counts. Milwaukee, with the largest urban outbreak, is reporting. Its last report shows 2,098 cases and two deaths.

As the school year ends in the United States, in theory the case counts ought to drop. Most of the out breaks have been centered around schools and colleges. We will still see outbreaks in places where young people are in close proximity, jails and prisons, summer school, camps, etc. The disease will spin back up in the Fall as schools reopen. The problem for the analyst will be that public reporting policies by the various agencies are so varied that we may not be able to see any summer decline until late in the summer, and the Fall return will also appear largely unreported.
