20 Terrs Killed in Clearing Ops
An Afghan and coalition security force killed more than 20 armed insurgents during an on-going clearing operation aimed at disrupting the Haqqani Network’s freedom of movement in Dzadran District of Paktiya province. This area is known Haqqani Network safe haven and used to stage attacks into Kabul and the Khost-Gardez pass. When the security force arrived, dozens of insurgents occupied entrenched fighting positions throughout the mountainous area, preparing to engage the security force with machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons. An air weapons team suppressed the enemy resulting in more than 20 insurgents killed so far. “The Haqqani Network is a prevalent insurgent threat in Afghanistan right now. Heavy fighting in last week in Afghanistan
Afghan and international security forces killed a large number of insurgents, including several key leaders for both the Haqqani network and Taliban, during an offensive operation in Jani Khel District of Paktiya province earlier this week. The security force killed Hamiddullah, a Haqqani network commander for Sabari District in Khost province, who had direct ties to Haqqani senior leadership based in Pakistan. He was reportedly responsible for an ambush of an Afghan National Army unit which killed three Afghan national police in March. According to intelligence information and local police, news of Hamiddullah’s death, who was well-known throughout the Haqqani network, is expected to have significant disruptive effects on the network throughout Khost and Paktiya provinces. Coalition Forces Strike Haqqani Command Bunkers
Coalition forces launched precision airstrikes overnight, June 29, against senior Haqqani commanders and command posts in the remote mountains of western Khost province. These militants are responsible for aiding in the movement of foreign fighters through the Khost-Gardez Pass and throughout Afghanistan. Coalition forces planned and coordinated the airstrikes when intelligence sources indicated militant activity at this rugged location earlier in the day. Coalition force aircraft were called in and destroyed a pair of command bunkers, killing more than a dozen militants. The Haqqani network remains one of the most lethal Taliban organizations operating out of Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Area.
