More states appear to have ceased publicly reporting cases. For this report, we have increased state totals to match the CDC case counts in those instances where the state case counts were less than the CDC’s. Unless something unexpected happens, this will be the last table until the Fall wave hits. We will continue to update information and discuss states with exceptional situations.

For the first time since we began reporting these numbers, the total from the state sites is lower than that of the CDC. This is due to the increasing number of states that are not testing widely or are not publishing their case numbers. In particular, it appears that New York may have stopped.

The outbreak is beginning to register in the smaller states that lagged a few weeks ago. Reporting is still the largest frustration. Wisconsin has the largest outbreak in the nation and is not publicly reporting case counts. Milwaukee, with the largest urban outbreak, is reporting. Its last report shows 2,098 cases and two deaths.

As the school year ends in the United States, in theory the case counts ought to drop. Most of the out breaks have been centered around schools and colleges. We will still see outbreaks in places where young people are in close proximity, jails and prisons, summer school, camps, etc. The disease will spin back up in the Fall as schools reopen. The problem for the analyst will be that public reporting policies by the various agencies are so varied that we may not be able to see any summer decline until late in the summer, and the Fall return will also appear largely unreported.
