Afghan National Commandos from 1st Company, 201st Kandak and members of the Afghan National Police, advised by Coalition forces, conducted a deliberate operation today [April 6 2008] eliminating several insurgents in Nuristan Province. The Afghan National Security Forces, along with Coalition forces, conducted a cordon-and-search in Kendal and Shok villages in an effort to clear the area of insurgents when several groups of enemy fighters engaged friendly forces from several compounds and multiple fighting positions around and within the villages. The combined force repelled the attack with accurate small-arms fire and crew-served weapons. During the long battle, the insurgents reinforced their positions in several compounds with large groups of fighters. Army Special Operations Forces Recognized
They’re called “the quiet professionals†– the elite force that navigated the Afghan mountains on horseback in the opening days of the terror war, and which Defense Secretary Robert M. Silver Star – possible Medal of Honor candidate? USASOC Baldwin, who left the military in 2005, will be presented his award for actions against enemy forces in Baqubah, Iraq April 9, 2004 where he demonstrated an extraordinary degree of heroism under fire by rallying ODA 062 in repelling a superior battalion-sized enemy force. Under intense enemy fire and in total disregard for his personal safety, Baldwin saved the life of a wounded American Soldier and went on to lead his team to block the escape of more than 350 rioting Iraqi prisoners. Colorado Springs Gazette Fort Carson honored two Green Berets on Wednesday for risking their lives to save comrades in separate Iraq firefights.
