I am from the town of Aalten in the Netherlands. I have no doubt that Sgt. van Aalten's ancestor used to live in my town. "Van Aalten" would be translated into "from Aalten" and that is probably what his ancestor's said when asked for their name, probably misunderstanding the question.

Sgt. van Aalten is not only a hero in the US, he is an example for all human beings on this world. The death of Cpl. Strik was front news for weeks in our country, little was mentioned about Sgt. van Aalten. Probably it did not fit in with the picture Dutch news want to show about the US, its citizens and soldiers. Neither was the presentation of the medal in the news. Disgusting.

Thanks you US soldiers for being our brothers in arms in Afghanistan
