Online conservative activists have rallied to CNBC’s Rick Santelli’s call last week, backed by mortgage traders, for a “Nationwide Chicago Tea Party” to protest the Obama Administration’s bailout plan. Over 40 cities held Tea Parties on February 27, 2009. Now, we’d like to invite you to Rochester’s Tea Party.

Thanks for putting up this page and publicizing this, Chuck!
Could you please add a link under “Organizations Involved” for:

Thanks a bunch!

Great idea! I’ll come if I can. But you need to get publicity for this ahead of time. Get on the radio–Lonsberry and Bill Nojay’s show. (I know Nojay doesn’t take calls, but send him a few messages.) No publicity, and the crowds will be a lot smaller. This has the potential of being very very big. Keep it up!
Steve,
When you get a chance, email me at:

Thanks!

Good for you. I plan to be there.
Jim,
Thanks! Bring a friend!
The program for the rally starts at 5pm and we have five speakers lined up.
I”ll be the guy with the American Flag, acting as MC for the speakers!

[...] Rochester Tea Party and a more in-depth link here, as well Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 – 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. “NY Gov. Patterson is going to be at the Rochester Convention Center for a ‘Town Meeting’ at 5:30 p.m. that day.” I’d really like to attend, but at this point I’m on the schedule at work until 6 p.m. and I’m an hour away. : We’ll see what I can do. I’m just finding out about this effort and think it’s great. I’d be happy to help in any way I can. I’ve thrown together a handful of protests and public speaking events in the past (including those POPNY events with Lonsberry). Let me know if there’s anything I can do.

While the Lawyer’s Co-op location is good for its proximity to the convention center while the Gov is there I believe better TV coverage (which is the goal, isn’t it?) would be obtained by protesting right in front of a TV studio (pick one, any one) focusing on that network’s positive coverage of Obama’s policies without equal time goven to opposing viewpoints. The competing stations would likely give the protest good coverage.

Well, at least it’s not supposed to be raining during the Rochester Tea Party tomorrow (3/11), but it will be windy. The Lawyers Co-Op Park is sheltered on two sides by buildings and I’m hoping they shield us from the wind.
Are you all making signs. I’m making two this evening. One of our speakers had to back out and I’ll try to pick up the slack at the beginning of the rally. Another guy is bringing an 10 watt electronic megaphone which will hopefully be sufficient for this event. Don’t forget to bring some tea, but a person on my blog suggested opening the tea bags and just dumping the tea into the River.
Again, I’ll be getting there around 4:30pm to claim the park and greet people as they arrive. The rally starts at 5pm. I’m getting psyched about this, folks and it feels like the night before a football game!

Suggestions for chants and cheers would be greatly appreciated. I’ve got a few:
No New Taxes, No New Fees! (repeated over and over)
New York State, the Land of Taxes! (repeated over and over)
Feel free to post more suggestions, once the rally gets going, we want to be loud and enthusiastic!
I want to make a few small signs tonight. Any suggestions on short and to the point phrases.
Make some suggestions for signs? We’ll be there – what would be the best (hastily made) signs?
Chant of :No new taxes no new fees, (then add) high taxes and we will flee
Don’t tax me, bro!
Repeal, resign or be replaced.
I don’t want to pay for your mortgage.
Gail and Wrella,
I’m so sorry that I didn’t get back to you last evening! I was busy making my own signs and didn’t get done until late and went to bed without checking online. I know it’s probably too late for you all, but here’s some suggestions for signs:
Colonel Riley suggested these:
I want America Back”
“America is Being Stolen”
“Defeat Socialism – Communisn-lite”
A person that participates in my blog suggested these:
—————————————————-
- Higher Federal Income Taxes
- Higher State Income Taxes
- New “Carbon” Taxes
- Higher Property Taxes
- New State Sales Taxes
Where Will It End?
Here! Now!
—————————————————-
Stop the war against taxpayers!
—————————————————-
Honk if you’re NOT stimulated
—————————————————-
Gov. Dave, stop fleecing New Yorkers for the CSEA/ NYSUT!
—————————————————-
Government health care = rationed health care
—————————————————-
More government spending = rewarding failure and sacrificing liberty
—————————————————-
If YOU want all this government spending, how about YOU pay for it!

Is there anybody coming from the Brockport area that could give a fellow Tea Partier a rid to the rally?
[...] *A small, but intrepid band of Tea Party attendees in Rochester NY dropped tea in the Gennessee River. Hope the enviros don’t go after them. Local TV report here. Flickr set here. Blog coverage here. [...]
I worked too late to come but I did hear on Lonsberry that there was a group of picketers outside the convention center . It didn”t sound like he was describing the tea party group but actually a group that was picketting contrary.
The leftist “Fair Share” people were active in the convention center lobby and just outside. Space was cramped with news vehicles and, presumably, politicians’ cars parked on the sidewalk.
I’m not the one to do it but could someone call Lonsberrys radio show and let him know that both groups were there at the convention center. It would be a good message for all to hear
I would like to thank the Ron Paul meetup, the Glenn Beck meetup, Rochester Conservative, RochesterWatch, and this site for the great effort and successful protest.
I would have loved to have come to the “party” Please try to publicize it better. I will watch this site for the next time.
Thanks
