An event aimed at bringing Rochester together to stop violence ended with fights and several arrests.
The Peace Festival wrapped up around six Sunday night. Cops were called in to break up the fights and clear the area. About six people were arrested. The festival was supposed to be a chance for groups to put aside past problems.
“We wanted to bring them out and really talk about some of the things that they can do to avoid conflict and violence in their own community and hopefully with their heightened awareness we will have less young people involved in violent activity,” said Pathways to Peace Director Victor Saunders.
Saunders says the arrests happened after Peace Fest wrapped up. This was the sixth year for the festival.
