Operation Medusa

In September, NATO and the ISAF launched a campaign to remove the Taliban from Panjwayi and Zhari districts, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. You never heard about it.

For the ten days from September 2 to September 12, 2006, Afghan and allied forces moved in a pincer movement to reoccupy the region and open Highway 1 to traffic again. You never heard about it.

At least 517 Taliban and other terrorists were killed. You never heard about it.

It was called Operation Medusa. The Canadians ran it, losing 15. You never heard about it.

See September 2006 Terrorist Death Watch for the cites.

Noticed this on digg. It was actually covered up here in Canada quite fairly, which if you ask any Canadian military personel or proponents is quite rare. Thank you for passing this on to our brothers to the south. Unlike many Canadians I believe that, for better or worse, we in the western world stand together or die alone. Now if only we could count on the old fading powers of continental europe to shoulder their share of this burden.

WTF? I distinctly remember hearing about this operation on CNN, comments about pincer movement and everything.

  3. RTO Trainer says:

MH, you were really paying attention.

Yes, CNN carried a story about it and then promptly dropped it. They certainly didn’t provide viewers with any context for it, never explaining the reasons for it or the benefits of it.

CNN’s reporting ammounts to “More mindless combat….”

But Anderson Cooper is happy to explain in depth the plight of the terrorist sniper.
