NATO Base Targeted in Cross-border Attack
Afghanistan (June 27, 2008) – Extremists fired rockets from locations in both Pakistan and Afghanistan on an International Security Assistance Force base in Paktika province earlier this morning.
Four rockets landed in the vicinity of the base. ISAF responded in self defense by firing artillery at the launch site, which was determined to be approximately 400 meters inside Pakistan. An airstrike was carried out on the launch site identified in Afghanistan.
The engagement started at approximately 3 a.m. local and the Pakistan military was notified when ISAF forces came under fire.
No ISAF casualties were reported.
