Mosul Ops May 5 2008

With media reports suggesting that Iraqi security forces are poised to move into Mosul as they did in Basra, I thought an update was in order.

Iraqi Army stops SVBIED attack against post
The Iraqi Army stopped a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack against the citizens of Mosul at Contingency Operating Post Rat May 3.

An al-Qaeda in Iraq member attempted to detonate the VBIED against COP Rat when he was engaged by the Iraqi Army.

The AQI member was killed, and an Iraqi Army soldier received minor injuries.

Iraqi Army, Coalition forces capture terrorists
The Iraqi Army and Coalition forces captured three terrorists after the three killed a local national in the Al-Uruba neighborhood of the city of Mosul May 4.

Coalition forces air assets were on station at the time and were able to track the terrorists and pass the information to the Iraqi Security Forces units on the ground. The ISF and CF moved to the houses where the terrorists fled and detained them.

“This is proof of the cooperation between the ISF and Coalition Forces to degrade the capabilities of AQI and ISI and remove the terrorists from the city of Mosul,” said Brig. Gen. Khalid Abdul Sattar, Ninewah Operations Command spokesperson. “The ISF is working seriously to improve the security and civility of the city.”
