Here’s a very sad story.

According to the Section V Web site, Jeff’s 11 goals this season put him among the top 10 scorers in Section V this spring.

Jeff sustained a pre-game blow to the head at Spencerport High School and was taken to the hospital for treatment Wednesday, according to Ogden Police officers.

Ogden Police Chief Douglas Nordquist said Milano-Johnson was in front of the goal retrieving a ball with his back to the field. He stood up and was struck in the back of the head just below the helmet line by a ball launched by a teammate. He was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time.

The incident, which occurred during a warm-up session before a game between Pittsford and Spencerport, was deemed accidental, police said. The game was cancelled after the incident.

Spencerport Athletic Director John Pelin said that today’s Spencerport-Brighton game had been postponed because of yesterday’s incident.

“Our trainer was on the scene and was the first responder,” Pelin said. “And 911 also responded very quickly before he was taken to the hospital.”

“The Pittsford school community is grieving the tragic loss of one of our students. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” said Mary Alice Price, superintendent of the Pittsford Central School District in the release from the hospital.

Scott Barker, athletic director, added: “Jeff was the type of kid who was full of life and well-liked by his teammates. Jeff loved the game of lacrosse and was dedicated to his sport.”
