Tamari from Rustavi, Georgia

Here is a piece written by an eighteen year old woman from Georgia, an acquaintance of mine.

Russian, Georgian conflict

Military conflict between Georgia and Russia began a week ago, but for us, Georgians it seems like forever. Knowing that somewhere near you people are being killed or asking for help, is the worst situation anyone can imagine, and I am in the middle of it. Being in the country which is in the war isn’t just a fear to get hurt or killed, but its the biggest psychological shock.

Watching your friends in military uniforms and thinking that you might never see them again. Watching people’s stressed faces in the street. Watching news to hear how many Georgians died that day. Watching Russian airplanes above you, throwing bombs to your city.Thats what I am up to these days. I know isn’t a movie I am watching, its realty.

Thousands of refugees are coming from conflict areas. They have no cloth, food or home any more.
Nobody talks about future unless saying “of course if we weren’t dead…”

Each of us appreciates world’s support. But they didn’t manage to stop Russia from killing hundreds of Georgians. Hope in the 21st century we’ll be able to stop aggressors and live in peace.

I am Tamari from Rustavi, Georgia. “World Peace” that’s what I believe in!
