How can that be with only 32,000 new jobs? I’m glad that you asked. Stats are from the BLS. Click on a graph to see a larger version.

The civilian labor force is at an all time high of 147,856,000. That’s an increase of 577,000 from June and an increase of 4,069,000 since George Bush took office.

Yeah, but millions of them are unemployed. Well, 8,196,000 are unemployed. This is the third lowest level this year, and lower than both May and June.

How many people aren’t in the labor force? In July, 75,565,000, which is the lowest number since January.

A lot of people want to work but can’t find jobs. Or maybe not. 4,630,000 people in July were not in the labor force but wanted to work. That’s the lowest number since April 2002.

139,660,000 people were employed in July, a new record. This is an increase of 1,870,000 from January 2001 when George Bush took office and an increase of 1,094,000 in 2004 alone. This is also an increase from the bottom of the recession in January 2002 of 3,945,000. Nearly four million jobs!
