Cheney on the Stump
VP Cheney visits and the usual suspects turn out.
Democrat & Chronicle
Vice President Dick Cheney used his appearance in Rochester today as an opportunity to defend administration policy on Iraq and the economy. He said Rep. Randy Kuhl, R-Hammondsport, Steuben County, was on the same page as the Bush administration.
“Randy stands 100 percent behind the men and women of our military…the President and I need Congressman Kuhl to keep the economy going,” Cheney said in a 20-minute speech at the Riverside Convention Center.
His appearance in Rochester was expected to raise about $100,000 for Kuhl’s campaign. Mike Roberts, a former Rochester City Council candidate who attended the fundraiser, said the vice president’s visit showed the influence Upstate New York has with the White House.
But not everyone was pleased. Outside the convention center, hundreds of protesters rallied against the war.
The group, many of whom carried protest signs against Cheney and Kuhl, began with about 80 protesters at Washington Square downtown. The crowd swelled to 250 protesters during a two-block walk to the convention center.
The protestors I saw, early in the events of the afternoon, were college age women, the Raging Middle Aged Women with Big Butts aka the Raging Grannies, and a very vocal set of disabled folks who were protesting the same thing as last time, some law that would allow them more freedom as to where they live. And, as an added bonus, the Nazareth College Republicans in a small counter protest.
First, the protestors. They held their rally at a memorial for the dead in the American Civil War. Ironic?

The babe factor was there, with two protestor babes, and two Nazareth College Republican babes.

Lastly, the fine young men and women of the Nazareth College Republicans. If any of you read this, I’d be glad to offer some protest advice or front some funds for magic markers so your signs are bigger and bolder.
