Cease Fire for Lebanon
I’ve read the ceasefire. I’ve read some of the commentary.
This isn’t really an agreement. All the sides didn’t sit down and iron it out.
It’s more like the instructions for a put-together bookcase. Some darn fool will always try to do it without the instructions. Or a part will be missing.
In other words, I don’t see the ceasefire as amounting to much.
The Israeli government will fall, and it should. Timidity was not the virtue called for in this case.
Giving Hezbullah some recognition was necessary. Ignoring them wouldn’t work. Conservatives seem to always want to do that. Ignore them and they’ll go away. Yeah, that worked with Castro, didn’t it? And North Korea? I’m not saying that some sort of recognition for Hezbullah makes them easier to deal with. It may not. But it does end the fiction that they are not a power to be reconned with.
