Tsunami: STINGY LIST Grows
This post will remain at the top of the page for today. New posts will be below this one. $961,465,672 This number represents the current total on THE STINGY LIST. The LIST was created to document the response by ordinary Americans to the tsunami in South East Asia. It is a list of all the contributions from individuals, groups and companies in the United States, that I could find on the Net. I have not updated many of the charities since the first one or two announcements, because I understand that many of the donations listed are going to those charities. By updating the charity’s total, I duplicate the amount. That means that I am intentionally shorting the count. I know that. But I would rather be able to say “… and much, much … Read entire article »

Tsunami: Roman Catholic Americans Give
Look on the left. $928 million and still climbing. In the list are 51 Roman Catholic Dioceses, with a recorded total of giving to tsunami aid of over $27,852,000. That’s about 1/3 of the 178 Roman Catholic Dioceses in the United States. I’m biased, but I call that an extraordinary outpouring of charity. These dollars were raised by school children, or collected in a second collection on a Sunday. These are dollars from every strata of society, including those, who like the widow in the New Testament, give of their poverty. … Read entire article »

Tsunami: Nearing $1 billion
$900,660,889. THE STINGY LIST continues to grow. I was able to discover a couple of lists of donors with URL’s that I could check. In addition, I found a source to cite for additional Roman Catholic donations. America is nearing a billion dollars in donations for tsunami relief. There remain large donations that I am unable to locate a cite for. ADM is an example. There is a Hollywood Foundation that apparently is not on the net, that has made a big donation. If I cannot find a cite, it doesn’t normally go onto the list. I don’t care who else has it listed. I won’t if I cannot find it independently. … Read entire article »

American Donations Continue
$866,215,276 Americans continue to donate to tsunami relief. It has become impossible to track the individual efforts in schools and local clubs. Many, many concerts and other events have been organized by ordinary Americans that are raising funds that THE STINGY LIST does not reflect. The Red Cross has stopped raising money for tsunami relief. Doctors Without Borders did so, as well, some time ago. When did you ever think that a charity would say that they have enough money? Roman Catholics have donated over $10.5 million in the 28 dioceses that I have been able to find information on. There are 178 dioceses in the United States. Imagine what the total from all those uncounted collection plates actually is. Take a look through the list. See what American generosity looks like. … Read entire article »
