MND-B Soldiers kill five criminals in Sadr City
Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers killed five criminals in the Sadr City district of Baghdad during night operations May 3 and 4.
At approximately 11:45 p.m. May 3, MND-B Soldiers operating an unmanned aerial vehicle positively identified two criminals preparing for a potential attack on soldiers conducting a barrier mission. The criminals had been seen earlier conducting similar operations. The UAV engaged the criminals with one Hellfire missile at approximately 12:05 a.m. May 4, killing both men. The engagement also destroyed their observation post position.
At approximately 12:15 a.m. May 4, an MND-B aerial weapons team positively identified armed criminals with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades. The AWT engaged the men with two Hellfire missiles, killing three criminals.
MND-B soldiers kill four criminals in New Baghdad
Multi-National Division – Baghdad soldiers killed four criminals in the New Baghdad district of eastern Baghdad May 4.
After criminals attacked soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment with small-arms fire, the MND-B soldiers returned fire. Two aerial weapons teams supported the infantrymen and engaged weapons fire. The four criminals were killed in the engagement.
MND-B soldiers target criminals, kill nine
Multi-National Division – Baghdad soldiers killed nine criminals during night operations in Baghdad May 4-5.
An aerial weapons team conducting surveillance identified a group of criminals preparing to launch an indirect-fire attack in Sadr City at approximately 9:50 p.m. May 4. An earlier indirect-fire attack occurred from the same location.
The AWT engaged and killed three criminals with a Hellfire missile. A 240 mm rocket rail was also destroyed.
At approximately 10:20 p.m., an AWT identified a criminal emplacing an improvised explosive device in eastern Baghdad and engaged the individual with 30 mm rounds, killing the criminal.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, were attacked in southwestern Baghdad with small-arms fire at approximately 11:30 p.m. An AWT came to the soldiers’ assistance and fired a Hellfire missile and 30 mm rounds at a building where the attack originated. Three criminals were killed, and the attack was halted.
At approximately 1:05 a.m. May 5, soldiers from 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, attached to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div., were struck with an IED and attacked with small-arms fire from a nearby rooftop in northeastern Baghdad. Soldiers in a M1A2 Abrams tank fired a 120 mm round at the rooftop and killed two criminals. No soldiers were injured in the IED attack and no MND-B vehicles were damaged.
SOI turns in large weapons cache
A Sons of Iraq member turned in a large cache to Spartan Soldiers of Company A, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, May 2.
The cache contained an operational DSHKA anti-aircraft gun with 300 rounds, 17 rockets of various sizes, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with seven RPGs, one 120 mm projectile and other small arms munitions.
The contents were handed over to an explosive ordnance disposal team for disposal.
