Iraq: Mistake???
Washington Post Meanwhile, in a village near the northern city of Mosul, where the U.S. military reported that it had mistakenly dropped a 500-pound bomb on the wrong target Saturday, residents said the Americans actually hit the correct house, killing an insurgent who they said had killed Iraqi security forces. The residents of Aaytha, 30 miles south of Mosul, said the bomb hit the home of the Numan family, members of the prominent Sunni Muslim Jubori tribe, one of the largest in Iraq. Witnesses said the blast killed 14 members of the family, including 10 women and children. Neighbors said a toddler related to the family was the sole survivor. Salem Jasem Jubori, who lives close to the house that was destroyed, said the head of the household was a middle-age … Read entire article »

Tsunami: Hollywouldn’t
All those folks who gave money to beat Bush, you know, those left coast Hollywood types. With the tsunami and all, they must be ponying up a pretty penny. Living their convictions. Helping the poor and wretched of the world. NOT Sandra Bullock gave $1 million, Spielberg $1.5 million, Linkin Park $100,000, Ozzie and Sharon Osbourne $190,000, Leonardo DiCaprio an undisclosed sum… don’t hold your breath waiting for more. A bunch of Asian stars have made donations in their own region. Lots of musicians are holding fund raising concerts. But, I just listed all the donations. Google is bare, beyond bare. Where are the liberals? Or don’t poor brown people half a planet away matter? Soros, and the other who gave tens of millions to defeat George Bush and yet not a penny for … Read entire article »

Tsunami: Donations and Comparisons
The total donated by Americans as of Saturday, January 8, 2004, at 10 p.m. is: $456,916,726. U.S. People, in the news, and in the comments on this blog continue to make the incorrect comparison between the rate of giving and the amount given between the United States and other Western Nations. As I have said before, they are not identical measures nor are they necessarily accurate measures. Saudi Arabia has about 20.2 million citizens. Its government has donated $30 million to tsunami relief. Our $350 million donation amounts to just over $1.18 per American. Their donation amounts to about $1.48 per Saudi citizen. Do the rate proponents seriously intend to argue that the Saudis are doing 25% better than we are? Our government is contributing $350 million to their $30 million. Even Norway, … Read entire article »

America: A Thank You from Iran
From my e-mail: I’m not sure, perhaps only two or three US citizens would see this comment, nevertheless, I’d like to express my gratitude for generosity and munificence your country has been having towards troubled people around the world. Just like last year when one of the most neglected city of my country devastated by earthquake, US helicopters were there to help out. Do you recall that historical city of Bam? Over 40,000 dead, etc. As an Iranian, I was delighted to see the presence of US military personnel in such an impudent atmosphere that detested regime of Iran had imposed over the face of my peaceful nation. I am aware, those ignorant America-haters (mostly envious of her predominance) still would keep nagging at US for her “stinginess” and “depravity”; anyone with … Read entire article »

Iraq: Good News Today
MNF-Iraq Mosul, Iraq — The 426th Civil Affairs Battalion worked with local Iraqis in northern Iraq to provide Alkishki Village with much needed electrical lines. The $50,000 project provided 250 residents of Alkishki Village electricity. It is the first time the village’s school has had electricity. ‘Throughout the construction schedule we received excellent support from the Dahuk Electrical Power Department,’ said Maj. Robert Schultz, 426th team leader. ‘They had inspectors at the site on a regular basis to make sure the work was being done properly so the effort wouldn’t be wasted.’ More than a thousand meters of high capacity aluminum electrical wiring has been run to the village. A junction box and transformer added the finishing touch to the project. MNF-Iraq Mosul, Iraq — The 426th Civil Affairs Battalion has provided new shelter, … Read entire article »

Stingy Americans Donate
January 6th, 2005 | Comments Off
$401,784,551.28 That is how much Americans, individuals, companies, have donated to tsunami relief. It’s no where near the actual amount, by at least $50 million. I’m trying to post donations for which I can find a URL. I’m ignoring stories that talk about dollar for dollar matching, because I have no way to know the dollars involved. I have frozen the American Red Cross national total at the first number I saw, knowing that much of what I am documenting adds to that original number. The same with other major charities. I have not added in the $350 million from the government, which is our money anyway. Nor have I added in the $6 million per day that it is costing to keep our military in the region conducting relief and recovery … Read entire article »
