An on-line magazine supporting the Ninth Amendment

Army Photos

I search a wide variety of military and governmental sites for material for this magazine. You don’t see a lot of photos from the Army, however.

The Navy and the Marine Corps have great sites for finding photos. Their thumbnails are fairly easy to look at and each has a caption so you know what’s going on. You can click on them and open the photo and caption into its own screen.

The Air Force is less user friendly, not allowing you to open the picture and caption into a separate tab from the main screen. There are a bunch of small thumbnails but clicking on a thumbnail opens it on the same screen and there is a caption.

The Army site sucks. No, it really, really sucks. The main screen is not their gallery. You have to click through and then you are confronted by 20 thumbnails that are 74×57 pixels. That’s small for an old man’s eyes. No captions. Clicking on a tiny thumbnail opens another page with a larger thumbnail and a caption. It looks like a page I would have put up when I was first learning HTML.

The Navy also has some sorting and display tools. It is the best of the four service sites.
