My small home town, where I grew up, got some very good news this week. A grant application has come through for $237,500 to pay for a new fire truck.
The bad news is that the Village says it cannot afford the matching 5%, about $12,000.
Oh, yeah, a little background. The entire area has been caught up in a frenzy of “Mine is bigger - No, mine is bigger!” for months now. The Township of Hornellsville and the Village are fighting. The City of Hornell is involved. And there is a major taxpayer revolt in the Village.
Small town government. Gotta love it.
