Sarah Palin on Hugh Hewitt

This is a mom, and the best part of the interview: HH: Last question, Governor. Have you and Todd heard from your son? And how is it on your nerves having your son deployed? SP: That little stinker, I guess he’s called his girlfriend a couple of times, but can you believe he hasn’t called his momma yet? He’s over there. They were just leaving Kuwait heading into Iraq, and I am just so extremely proud of Track, my son, and all of the men and women, of course, serving in the military. I’m proud that my son made this independent and very wise decision as such a young man at 18, deciding you know, he realized there’s something he can do to help, to contribute, to help protect our nation, … Read entire article »

Balad’s Operation Rising Star

A native of Greenwood, Ind., won Joint Base Balad’s Operation Rising Star contest Sept. 14, 2008. Army Capt. Lisa Kopczynski performed Susan Tedeschi’s “It Hurt So Bad,” earning a $500 cash prize and a chance to compete online via recorded video on the Operation Rising Star Web site. “Singing is a longtime passion of mine, so this was one way for me to bring a little bit of home out here,” said Kopczynski, the public affairs officer for the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Mayor Cell. The grand prize for the top performance is an all-expense-paid trip to Los Angeles to record a three-song demo CD. The trip includes professional studio time and one-on-one time with music executives who will coach the winner in music arrangement, vocals, mixing and mastering. Army Veterinarian Plays Key Role

Most people think of veterinarians as animal doctors, and indeed they are. But the work of a deployed Army veterinarian here shows the specialty involves much more than that. “My main job here at division is agriculture subject-matter expert,” Army Maj. Freddie Zink explained from his office at Task Force Mountain headquarters. Zink works regularly with Iraqi veterinarians and farmers, whether it’s helping with vaccinations of farm animals or advising on projects from poultry farms to beehives. Like many of the other reservists in the 445th Civil Affairs Battalion, Zink brings valuable civilian skills to his job in the Army. He practiced veterinary medicine in Piedmont, S.C., for 20 years before retiring, selling his practice, and accepting a commission in the Army Reserve. After officer training, he volunteered to deploy with the 445th, … Read entire article »

Medical Updates for Both of Us

Here’s a brief update for the lovely wife and I. Saw her eye specialist yesterday. It looks like her retina problems are under control for now. No further work needed. We are still pushing Binder and Binder about her Social Security Disability. Trying to get our local Congresscritter involved as well. I continue to heal. I continue to use my right arm more than I should. I have not had any PT due to the lack of money for the co-pay and the medical insurance running out today. Today Our Health Insurance Runs Out

Today is a very special day. It is the last day the lovely wife and I will have health insurance. The insurance from my last employer, through COBRA, expires September 30, 2008. I swallowed my pride and called them and asked if they would consider keeping me on. I’ve been paying the last 18 months, so they know I’m good for it. Nope. I make $405 a week on unemployment. That’s too much for Medicaid. New York has two programs intended to bridge the gap between corporate and Medicaid health coverage. I make too much money on unemployment for Family Health Plus. Healthy New York is what’s left. Except you have to have been employed in the last twelve months. So, I am taking the position that a temp job that ended in early September … Read entire article »

Bailout Fails!

Looks like the majority of the House agreed with me. The financial bailout in its current form is dead. The usual way to fix this is for Congress to lard up to bill with pork so that more Congresscritters will vote for it. Watch for that approach to be forthcoming. Congress can be bought. It’s just a matter of the price, now. OTOH, it is remotely possible that the Congressmen and Congresswomen that voted this bill down might vote for a new bill, with no bailouts for foreigners or mismanaged companies, no purchases of securities other than mortgages and strict controls on the Treasury Department. Or, pigs will fly. Fire Congress! Opposing the Bailout

The bailout uses your money. From your pocket. Do you really want to spend your money? Do you really want the Federal Government to take your money and spend it however they wish? Here are some of the others opposing the financial bailout. Michelle Malkin Phone calls to congressional offices continue to show overwhelming public opposition to the massive, unprecedented government giveaway. Nevertheless, GOP House Minority Leader John Boehner and the House Republican leadership have thrown in the towel. Make room for them on the couch with Gingrich and Pelosi. Boehner called the deal a “crap sandwich,” but told House Republicans he’ll vote for it. Are you going to swallow this crap? Is your congressional representative? No Wall Street Bailout The $700 billion bailout figure is as much money as the combined annual budgets of … Read entire article »

Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008

Here is a link to the Financial bailout agreement. It is in PDF form. It is a long and complex document but a very quick scan reveals some issues for the American taxpayer. Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 Lots of bad options were taken out. Still: The government would have the authority to buy troubled assets from foreign banks and governments. The government, in certain circumstances, is authorized to pay more for the troubled asset than its current owner paid. A substantial bureaucracy to administer and inspect these programs is authorized. While the government is urged to mitigate foreclosures by interest rate changes and / or the forgiveness of principal, foreclosure is not ruled out. The government is authorized to begin buys before creating any policies, procedures or regulations concerning such activities. Fire Congress! Previous in series … Read entire article »
