Multi-National Division – Baghdad soldiers killed at least six criminals, detained three, and destroyed anti-Coalition force arms overnight and into the early morning of April 30 in separate incidents in Baghdad.

Over the weekend a video appeared on YouTube, and then the news media picked up on the story. It was a video that a military father took in his son’s barracks at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. We had a Bloggers’ Roundtable this afternoon with Brigadier General Dennis Rogers, Deputy Director of Operations & Facilities Headquarters, Installation Management Command and Command Sgt. Major Debra Strickland. What follows is what we learned about the facts surrounding this issue.

In Baghdad, basic services like sewage, water and trash service are tied to security. While Soldiers work to make the streets safer, their leaders work to put systems in place that will give residents a sense of normalcy.

Border enforcement, the foundation in building a nation’s security, is an important line of defense against threats entering Iraq.

The Marines of the Border Transition Team for the Iraqi 5th Brigade, 2nd Region train, mentor and advise Iraq’s department of border enforcement on a daily basis, ensuring security of the region.

Marines of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 1 and local Iraqi security forces and community officials celebrated the opening of al-Tareq Ela al-Salaam, which translates to “The Road to Peace,” here, April 14.

The Wasit Provincial Reconstruction Team, in concert with the Wasit Director General of Education, started a yearlong initiative in March called Access to Information. The program will provide local schools and libraries with books and resources and open Internet centers to selected secondary schools, universities and municipal library headquarters in al-Hayy and al-Kut, said Vanessa Beary, the PRT public diplomacy officer.

Over fourteen anti-Afghani forces were killed over this past weekend in fighting. A number of enemy troops were captured.
