Monsoor Medal of Honor Officially Announced

White House Next week there will be a Medal of Honor ceremony, posthumous ceremony — posthumous award, excuse me, for Petty Officer Michael Monsoor. The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8th. Her hands run across his hand, her fingers explore his features. She asks her father: Is he fat or skinny? Tall or short? Diyala River Valley Caches of al Qaeda Arms Found

This is quite a clean up op, considering all the other things going on. Coalition forces killed three terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda in Iraq and uncovered two dozen weapons caches during a five-day operation targeting bomb-making cells in the Diyala River Valley. Coalition forces discovered 12 house-borne improvised explosive devices (HBIED) and anti-aircraft weapons while patrolling an area near Khan Bani Sa’ad Mar. 23 to 28 that had been used as a safe area by terrorists. During the operation, one terrorist was observed hiding in an area of reeds. The assault force repeatedly instructed the individual to come out but he refused to comply with the ground forces’ instructions. Iraqi Policeman killed preventing car bomb attempt

TIKRIT, Iraq – An Iraqi Policeman was killed and two Sons of Iraq group members were injured while attempting to foil a suicide car bomb targeting an SOI leader’s house in a densely populated area in the northern Iraqi city March 30. According to Coalition forces in Siniyah, the vehicle detonated as the men were attempting to deny movement to the house by engaging the vehicle with small arms-fire. The wounded were transported to a Coalition force hospital for treatment. “There is no way of knowing how many lives were saved by these fearless men,” said Lt. Col. Afghan school gets new library and science lab

The first day of school at Jan Qadam Elementary School, Parwan Province, was alive with the throngs of excited children, dignitaries, government officials and Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan soldiers who dedicated a new school library and science lab, March 24. Just after 9 a.m. on Monday, the Head of the District Development Council welcomed everyone to the event, noting the importance of the relationship between the school and all those who helped make it a great place to learn. Cavalry unit responds to insurgent activity

Multi-National Division – Center Soldiers from 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment and Iraqi Security Forces combated an increase in violence in and around Jisr Diyala, a town east of Baghdad, March 26-28. On March 26, 3-1st Cav. Regt. Soldiers were engaged by small-arms fire from insurgents. During the days following, enemy activity increased, leading to AH-64 Apache attack helicopters from the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade engaging five insurgents in the early hours of March 28. Sadr Orders Halt to Revolt

Reuters A sudden call by Iraqi Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr to stop battling government forces caught his followers off guard on Sunday after six days of fighting that had spread through southern Iraq and Baghdad. Although Mehdi Army members said they would obey the call, they doubted the government would keep its side of the bargain. Sadr’s aides portrayed the order to stop fighting as part of a deal negotiated with the authorities to end arrests that have outraged his followers. The government said it would not halt its campaign against “criminals” in the southern city of Basra, which triggered fighting in other Shi’ite areas. Iraqi Army, U.S. SF patrol attacked; 13 criminal fighters killed (Suwayrah) A patrol consisting of 8th Iraqi Army Division Scouts and U.S. Special Forces Soldiers was attacked by criminal elements in southeastern Suwayrah March 29. Iraqi and U.S. Forces repelled the attack, killing 13 enemy fighters. Iraqi and U.S. Forces conducted a presence patrol in Suwayrah. During the patrol, an Iraqi woman approached the patrol and told them a criminal member lived in a nearby house. Iraqi and U.S. Forces searched the house, finding nine rocket propelled grenades and criminal propaganda. Shortly after continuing their patrol, a U.S. SF Soldier identified six armed individuals exiting a cargo truck, posturing to attack the patrol with RPGs.
