Well, that was a long day! The lovely wife was scheduled for her cardiac cath at 10 am, so I was there by 10. Emergencies and rescheduling bumped her repeatedly until 2:30 pm. By that time she was tired, hungry and cranky. The cath found two blockages. One is in a tiny vessel and not able to be fixed. The other required a stent and that was done. They sedated her quite thoroughly. When I left at 9 she was still coming out of the sedation. I had three arms and her nurse was twins. By that time she was tired, hungry and cranky. So was I. Her ejection fraction is now about 40, up from an intial 15. Her blood pressure is doing better. The cath did not reveal any serious damage from … Read entire article »

The Lovely Wife’s Condition
Best guess right now: Enzymes seem to indicate a heart attack in the last two weeks or so. In female diabetics the symptoms can be atypical or event absent. Her heart is pumping at 25% of normal. She’s on meds to lower her very high blood pressure and remove fluid, and they have made a noticable improvement through this morning. She is in congestive heart failure. She has agreed to a heart catheterization tomorrow. She gets to eat today, and lose more fluid. If she cannot lay on her back tomorrow without the coughing, the procedure will be postphoned. If they find blockages, they will implant stents. If the blockages are too bad, they won’t and we’ll be talking about bypass surgery. The doctor in charge of the Heart Failure program is … Read entire article »
