Taliban continue to harm Afghan civilians

ISAF BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (30 December) – Over the past week, Afghan National Police (ANP) and IASF forces have successfully defeated a variety of insurgent attacks in Regional Command-East (RC-E), and delivered humanitarian assistance despite a series of indiscriminate insurgent assaults leading to civilian deaths and damage to property. The indiscriminate insurgent assault on civilian lives and property came at the same time as the Taliban leader Mohammed Omar called on his forces to show more care. “Mullah Omar tells his forces to be more careful, but every day they do the opposite. He knows full well his remarks are pure hypocrisy because the insurgents constantly demonstrate by their actions that they have no regard for the Afghan people,” said Maj. Gen. Angus Watt, ISAF’s Acting Commander. “The international community and the Afghan … Read entire article »

The terrorists won.

The terrorists won the war. They did. How do you figure that, you ask? The terrorists attacked the United States to effect change through violence. That has happened. Flying on an airline has become an exercise in patience and intrusive personal invasion of our privacy. Because one visibly crazed man had a bomb in his sneakers, our security measures now include asking passengers to remove their sandals. Because airline personnel were trained to cooperate with hijackers, we cannot carry nail clippers onto a plane. The murders of September 11 meant to strike fear into the people of the United States and to destroy symbols of our economic and political power. Five years later, political squabbles and the need to accept every opinion of every family member of every person murdered on 9/11 as gospel … Read entire article »

Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO FORWARD OPERATING BASE FALCON, Iraq – It was in Frank Capra’s 1946 classic, “It’s A Wonderful Life” that the saying, “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets their wings” was popularized. During this holiday season, the saying could be, “Every time someone sends a letter to a FOB Falcon Soldier, an angel gets their wings.” In this case, the “angels” are fellow Americans from the Soldiers’ Angels Organization. Soldiers with the 15th Brigade Support Battalion’s Supply Support Activity are corresponding with people from all over the United States through letters and e-mails. “I just wanted someone to write to me,” said Pfc. Marisela Tapia, an automated logistical supply specialist assigned to Company A from Anaheim, Calif. “I went to the internet café and read the story [on the website].
