Mary Katherine Ham

Mary Katherine Ham is the latest darling of the middle aged men that make up the right wing blogosphere. She’s pretty, smart, pretty, well-spoken, pretty, and just barely legal. And pretty. Townhall prints her bio but it is as dry as the Sahara and as bereft of content as a John Kerry speech. I’ve done some digging and found out the things not included in her offical bio. Mary Kate was born into a poor farming family in the hills of North Carolina. Her roots in the deep South have, to this day, failed to have any effect on her affected French Canadian accent, however. Her family lived way back in the hills. They were so isolated that the only time they left the farm was for church on Sunday. And Wednesday. … Read entire article »

Unsafe Cities and Politics

After I posted the original post about the Unsafe Cities Report, I began to wonder about the decades that the Democrats had controlled the mayor’s office in so many of the cities. Why? Why would the voters of Newark vote for a Democratic mayor for 53 years? Clearly Newark has struggled during that period, had riots and crime, had an economy slump nearly out of sight. What did the Democrats bring to the voters of Newark that kept them in power? Or, could it be the poor presentations by Republicans? Is the Republican Party in general that bad at running good candidates for the office of mayor? Detroit has had a Democratic mayor for 44 years. In the beginning of the 1960′s they elected a Democrat. They kept electing Democrats through the … Read entire article »

Unsafe Cities

UPDATE: A commentor suggested that it might prove instructive to see how long a political party held the mayor’s office. I have added that info, via Wikipedia. I was also going to do the same type of table for the 25 safest, but, frankly, they are mostly much smaller communities. I don’t feel that it would be an apples to apples comparison. Here’s a good way to determine which party governs each of the top 25 least safe cities in the United States. You might want to remember this in the voting booth. RANK CITY ST MAYOR GOVERNOR 1 ST. LOUIS … Read entire article »

Simmins / Hargadon

Write-in candidates for Governor of Maryland and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland Simmins / Hargadon The top ten sources of pollution of the bay will be ranked according to their impact on the environment and the cost of clean-up. Chief Warrant Officer 3 Lori Hill

Distinguished Flying Cross – won by a woman!!! [Amelia Earhart is a civilian recipiant] U.S. Army Back in March in Iraq, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Lori Hill, with the 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, was piloting her Kiowa Warrior when the lead chopper came under heavy fire. She drew the fire away, simultaneously providing suppressive fire for the troops engaged with the enemy on the ground. A rocket-propelled grenade hit her, damaging the helo’s instrumentation, but instead of focusing on her predicament, she established communication with the ground forces and continued to provide them with aerial weapon support until the Soldiers reached safety. As she turned her attention to the aircraft, which was losing hydraulic power, the helo took on machine-gun fire, a round crashing into one of Hill’s ankles.
