Can’t Anyone in Louisiana Run a State?

I was sceptical a few weeks ago when I wrote about the vast sums of money that the Feds were giving to Gulf Coast homeowners. I figured a lot of folks were going to add to the waste we’ve already seen. Boy, was I wrong! I admit it. I never saw this coming. Louisiana cannot manage to give the money away. WWL-TV Only 11 people have received a check so far from the Louisiana Recovery Authority and only about 250 have been told they’ll be receiving money, a pace that brought shocked responses from some officials at a public hearing Friday. The LRA has about $10 billion to distribute to homeowners and they’ve had the funds for about three months. There are nearly 27,000 applicants. “We have over $10 billion at disposal,” said State … Read entire article »

James Webb, Porn0grapher for Senate Campaign

John Hawkins has a series of direct quotes from books authored by the Democratic candidate for Senate from Virginia, James Webb. They are vulger, offensive and porn0graphic. They include possible mother / son, underaged girls, a stripper with remarkable muscle control and very liberal use of the “N” word. Can anyone even try to pretend that a Republican candidate who wrote this sort of material wouldn’t absolutely be ripped to shreds by the mainstream press? … Read entire article »

EMT on Both Sides of the Gurney

Hornell Evening Tribune Lester Johnson was three months into fulfilling a life-long interest in becoming an emergency medical technician when it nearly came crashing down. Johnson, a 56-year-old Hornellian, began taking the once-a-week course in July 2005, going to classes and participating in lab exercises. On Oct. 29, 2005, he attended his CPR training and headed home not feeling too well. Several hours later he found himself being Mercy Flight-ed from St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell to Rochester General Hospital, having sustained a heart attack. [snip] The training had an extra benefit for Johnson, who has been employed by Gunlocke in Wayland for about 8 1/2 years. Baghdad Police College

I’m just a little curious about the problems being reported at the Baghdad Police College. You see, the media has been through there. Gulf Region Division, ACE Hundreds of cadets recently joyously celebrated after graduating from Baghdad Police Academy’s 10-week basic course. Russia Is Our Friend – Not

The Star Russia handed over to China a destroyer equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry on Thursday, finalising a $1.5 billion deal analysts say boosts Beijing’s clout in its stand-off with Taiwan. “The handover act was signed today, and a Chinese flag was hoisted on the ship,” a Russian defence industry source told Reuters, requesting anonymity. The warship was the fourth Project 956E ‘Sovremenny’ (Modern) class destroyer built at the Northern Shipyard in Russia’s second city St Petersburg and sold to China under a 2002 deal through Russia’s state arms trader Rosoboronexport. In the late 1990s China bought two such ships under a separate contract. [snip] “Concern about these ships in both Taipei and Washington is justified by the fact that Taiwan and perhaps even the U.S. Navy lacks an effective defence against … Read entire article »
