Camera Crew Busted

MULTI-NATIONAL DIVISION – NORTH Heads up patrolling and attention to detail aided 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team troops in capturing a pair of anti-Iraqi Forces cameramen in Mosul April 28. The troops noticed the two men video taping their convoy as they conducted a security patrol in the city. As soon as the Soldiers began to move towards the camera crew, the two individuals scrambled in an attempt to flee. Effective maneuvering allowed the troops to box in the men without incident. A quick search of the car the AIF were driving yielded two IED initiating devices. The men both claimed they were hired to videotape the activities of coalition forces during patrols in the area. Park Ramp Structural Collapse

Here’s what the original collapse looked like, from R News. I took a walk around the block at lunch today to take some pics of the parking garage exit ramp that collapsed a week ago. The collapsed portions have been removed and it looks like work is underway on removing the entire ramp. The engineers will have to finish their work on the origins of the collapse first. Here’s the intersection of Main Street and South Avenue. This is what we’ve seen every morning this week. The Rochester Riverside Convention Center is that stone building in the background. The Hyatt is on the corner to the left. The Hyatt abutts the garage, and the exit ramp is at the south end of the garage, at the corner … Read entire article »

Origins of Holidays

My brother reports the origin of a Mexican holiday. Most people don’t know that back in 1912, Hellmann’s mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National … Read entire article »

Needed: One Ass Kicking

There are some situations where you regret the cruel and unusual punishment clause in our Constitution. This is one of them. This young man needs to have his butt kicked for about a mile or so. Photoes courtesy R News. Democrat & Chronicle Police said Brandon S. Volpe, 18, of 1097 North Greece Road was westbound on Old Edgemere when his vehicle left the road, grazed two telephone poles and struck two houses on Old Edgemere. The car hit the front of 1005 Old Edgemere, causing the porch roof to collapse, then continued into the first floor of General and Walker’s home, said Lake Shore Fire Assistant Chief Gregg Knapp. “We woke up with the loud bang,” Angela General said. “I thought it might have even been an earthquake.
