Poles Liquidate Terrs
MNF Iraq CAMP ECHO, Iraq — Soldiers from Multi-National Divison Central-South conducted Operation COBWEB to find and capture anti-Iraqi forces in the north part of Wasit province from May 6 – 10. Soldiers from the 1st Polish Brigade Combat Team, the 8th Iraqi Division and the 19th Iraqi Brigade participated in this operation. As a result of the operation, the terrorists group that organized terrorist attacks in the south of Baghdad city were liquidated. Twenty-nine terrorists have been detained, forty kinds of guns have been confiscated and explosive materials have been found. Clockwork time fuses, propaganda materials, including films that show executions of some Iraqi Internal Ministry officials, and other materials concerning anti-coalition and anti-Iraqi administration activities were also found. Terrorist Cash Taken
Good News from Iraq Centcom BAGHDAD, Iraq ‘ Task Force Baghdad units nabbed 15 terror suspects during six early-morning raids conducted throughout Baghdad on May 22. One of the raids, in central Baghdad, netted two suspected terrorists and $6 million dollars in US currency. Later in the day, an Iraqi citizen told Iraqi Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division about two people suspected of planning and carrying out a car-bomb attack near a military base in central Baghdad. An Iraqi patrol went to the site, cordoned off the area and detained two suspects. Both suspects were taken into custody for questioning. Another Iraqi citizen’s tip helped Task Force Baghdad Soldiers find 14 mortar rounds in east Baghdad. Bush Meets Local Families
Democrat & Chronicle Shortly after President Bush finished his talk about Social Security, he took the time to meet with the families of two area servicemen killed in Iraq. Lance Cpl. Brian Schramm, 22, of Greece, was hit by shrapnel in October; Spc. Matthew Koch, 23, of Henrietta, was killed by a bomb that detonated near his vehicle in March. Keith and Mary Ellen Schramm, Brian’s parents, were sitting in the fourth row at Greece Athena when they and four family members were whisked into a nearby classroom for a private conversation with the president. “He introduced himself to us individually, and he offered us his condolences for our son and thanked us for his service,” Schramm said. Child pr0n priest Micky Volino has entered a plea of guilty to one count of pocessing. He’s been living in the area with a local family since the monastery near Elmira he was supposed to retreat to did not have a phone, to be used with the ankle bracelet monitor. Volino is being represented by John Parrinello, Republican candidate for Mayor of Rochester, and high priced defense attorney. Sentencing is set for September 8th. Democrat & Chronicle The Rev. In his guilty plea to a single felony count, Volino admitted only to possessing more than three pornographic images, but federal prosecutors contend that he had more than 600. Iraq: Update for May 25, 2005
Good News from Iraq Weekly Update [PDF file] Electricity load served last week increased significantly to an average of 92,500 MWh, with several power plants coming back online. Hours of available power likewise increased to 9.9 hours in Baghdad and 9.0 hours countrywide. Peak capacity is above pre-war levels and is expected to increase into the summer months. On May 19, the Iraqi Police Service graduated 167 police officers from advanced training and specialty courses at the AdnanTraining Facility. The courses consist of Basic Criminal Investigations with 58 graduates, Interview and Interrogations with 21 graduates, Critical Incident Management with 25 graduates, Violent Crime Investigation with 29 graduates, Mid-level Management with 19 graduates and Basic Computer Skills with 15 graduates. Hard to believe 1200 people. The church doesn’t look that big and the news reports didn’t seem to show that many. But, I was over freezing with the diehards, not with the comfortables. R News More than 1,200 people gathered in downtown Rochester to protest President Bush’s social security plan. A rally was held inside and outside of the First Universalist Church. It was organized by the In This Together Campaign: New Yorkers United to Protect Social Security. It began after Mr. Bush left Rochester, but those involved say they’re more interested in getting their message out to the general public. BBC Dominique de Villepin has been named as France’s new prime minister, following the country’s rejection of the EU constitution in Sunday’s referendum. How could the French President appoint a man as Prime Minister who is so patently anti-American? This is not at all helpful for Franco-American relations. de Villepin’s immoderate use of language about the United States and his clearly duplicitous dealings with the United States and its enemies should have disqualified him from serving in this post. The President of France has a moral and ethical obligation to pursue policies and appoint individuals which would narrow the gap between our two nations.
