A Star Is Bought
(Lucy Nicholson/Reuters) Teen actress twin sisters Mary-Kate (L) and Ashley Olsen pose after receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Hollywood, California April 29, 2004. The Olsen twins’ first film ‘New York Minute’ will be released in the U.S. May 7. First of all, anyone can get a star if they’re willing to pay the going rate. The only honor is the recognition that you have enough money, and enough vanity, to pay for the damn thing. I swear, the twins have made movies before this. And the term “prostitots” applies. Expect to see them in Playboy after they turn 18. Mary Kate: hate that hair color. Ashley: What are you, like, Paris Hilton’s minime? Oh, yeah, and the “Got Milk” photo… Got cum? … Read entire article »

SARS: Interesting Data
WHO Final Statistical Report: Communist China and Communist Vietnam had the lowest death rates of any nation with a significant outbreak, excepting the United States. 7% and 8% respectively. Compare that to Free China at 11%, Hong Kong at 17%, or Canada at 17%. Is anyone willing to accept the Communists’ numbers are anything near accurate? Communist China reported that 19% of its cases were among healthcare workers, again the lowest percentage of any nation with a significant outbreak, excepting the United States. Vietnam reported that 57% of its cases were in healthcare workers. Canada had 43% of its cases in that group. The United States had a final total of 27 cases with no fatal cases. That’s less than half of the number that being reported for a long time, and one … Read entire article »

Bishop’s Statement on Gay Marriage
Bishop Matthew H. Clark What we believe about the Sacrament of Marriage Much has been written and broadcast of late concerning the movement to legalize same-sex marriages. Such attempts have recently reached New York state and stirred considerable debate. Naturally, questions have arisen among the Catholic faithful about the Roman Catholic Church’s teachings on this issue. Therefore, I believe it will be helpful to you to communicate here what we believe and why we are strongly opposed to this movement. I. We believe that marriage is a sacrament celebrated between a baptized man and a baptized woman, and so same-sex marriage is not possible. Roman Catholics cherish the institution of marriage between a man and a woman as divinely inspired, a sacred union that Scripture compares to Jesus Christ’s divine love for his … Read entire article »

New York Late Again!
For the 20th year in a row, the New York State government has failed to pass a budget in the constitutionally prescribed timeframe. This is a state where the Senate is Republican, the Assembly is Democrat, and it is virtually impossible to lose an election. Our legislators earn more than post full-time workers for a part-time job, and the perqs are huge, simply huge. Three people, the Governor, the Assembly Speaker, and the Senate Majority Leader, control the mess and they just don’t care. Oh, yeah, the budget is so important that the legislature ajourned for an 12 day spring break today. N.Y. State Again Fails to Pass Budget ALBANY, N.Y. – New York state begins its 20th straight year without an on-time budget Thursday, a record of futility unmatched in the … Read entire article »

Those Damned Handicapped Folks
April 5th, 2004 | Comments Off
Des Moines Register A 14-year-old Laurens boy who rides his motorized wheelchair around town because he can’t walk is being accused of criminal behavior. Local officials say Bryce Wiley is breaking state law by riding the wheelchair on city streets and sidewalks. If the riding continues, Laurens police Chief Rod Watkins said he will have to fine the boy $15 for each violation. Bryce uses a wheelchair because he has muscular dystrophy. He said he will defy the police chief’s orders and continue to ride his wheelchair to get to the park, the grocery store and the football field on Friday nights. His parents are supporting him. “The chair is his legs,” said Bryce’s father, Mike. “I just wish they’d leave him alone.” Watkins insists that he’s looking out for Bryce’s best interests. … Read entire article »
