Rachel Corrie, Neo Nazi

The 23-year-old American “peace activist” was fatally injured when she purposefully obstructed an Israel Defense Forces bulldozer engaging in counter-terror operations. What the Israelis graciously called a “regrettable accident” should never have occurred, because Corrie should have first been arrested, either by Israel or the United States. The tunnels Corrie was protecting are underneath the Israel-Egypt border. These elaborate structures, often wood paneled and with electricity, communications equipment and even elevators, are typically dug inside residential homes and concealed under bathrooms, living rooms and bedrooms. They are used to smuggle weapons and explosives — not to mention drugs and prostitutes — from Egypt into Gaza. Corrie, recently seen in a wire service photo angrily burning an American flag, was acting on behalf of the radical Arab-led International Solidarity Movement (ISM), an outfit … Read entire article »

Canada: Socialized Medicine Going Broke?

My brother calls my attention to this: CBS News Americans who flock to Canada for cheap flu shots often come away impressed at the free and first-class medical care available to Canadians, rich or poor. But tell that to hospital administrators constantly having to cut staff for lack of funds, or to the mother whose teenager was advised she would have to wait up to three years for surgery to repair a torn knee ligament. “It’s like somebody’s telling you that you can buy this car, and you’ve paid for the car, but you can’t have it right now,” said Jane Pelton. Rather than leave daughter Emily in pain and a knee brace, the Ottawa family opted to pay $3,300 for arthroscopic surgery at a private clinic in Vancouver, with no help from … Read entire article »

Medal of Honor: Two Heroes

Medal of Honor Due to my illness last Friday, the weekly post honoring the bravery of America’s military did not occur. So, here’s two, for this week. You know, I read these and am dumbfounded by the courage displayed. *HANDRICH, MELVIN O. Rank and organization: Master Sergeant, U.S. Army, Company C, 5th Infantry Regiment. Place and date: Near Sobuk San Mountain, Korea, 25 and 26 August 1950. Entered service at: Manawa, Wis. Born: 26 January 1919, Manawa, Wis. G.O. No.: 60, 2 August 1951. Citation: M/Sgt. Handrich, Company C, distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action. The Senate of the United States:

President Bush called Afghan President Hamid Karzai last week to apologize for the way he was treated in a meeting with members of a Senate committee on Capitol Hill late last month, according to senior Afghan officials… Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) warned that if Karzai told the committee everything was going well, “the next time you come back, then your credibility will be in question.” Hagel said later that he felt the administration had “coached” Karzai. Holding a recent report released by the advocacy group Human Rights Watch, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) told Karzai that “police in Herat are detaining women and girls caught alone with unrelated men, are being forced to submit to medical exams to see if they have recently had sexual relations.” From HERE I’ve said it before, Senators lose all … Read entire article »

Surrender Your Liberties, It’s an Airport

Airport screeners have seized more than 4.8 million items – including guns, knives, a kitchen sink pipe and a circular saw – in the 13 months the federal government has been in charge of security. The Transportation Security Administration on Monday gave its most thorough accounting of seizures at the nation’s 429 commercial airports. At the same time, the Justice Department released an audit that said foreign terrorists and known criminals could still slip past U.S. immigration officials at major airports because of gaps in a system aimed at singling them out. From HERE Yeah, I bet the guy with the circular saw was going to hijack a plane! That’s sarcasm, BTW. And, you don’t ever get back what they seize, jewelry, whatever. If a TSA guard doesn’t lift it for their own … Read entire article »

You Cannot Humiliate French Soldiers

Then in June 1995, on the day that Chirac took office as president of France, a unit of French UN peacekeepers was taken hostage by the Serbs, tied to trees and chained to Serbian artillery pieces. Chirac, who had been wounded after he volunteered to serve in the French Army in Algeria, was outraged. “I will not accept this,” he told aides. “You can kill French soldiers, you can wound them, but you cannot humiliate them!…” From the International Herald Tribune 1814: Napoleon abdicates and is exiled to Elba1815: Napoleon defeated at WaterlooParis was surrounded by the Germans on Sept. 19, 1870 and a grueling siege began.1940: Paris falls, Vichy’s government formed8/11/42: Allies land in North Africa, French surrender5/7/54: French surrender at Dien Bien Phu7/3/62: Algeria given independance Yeah, you just can’t humiliate … Read entire article »
